How Do You Stay Stylish While Pregnant?

November 8, 2012

Filed in: Uncategorized

You’re pregnant, you’re excited, you start to plan. You plan the nursery, the birth, the baby classes. You start a library of baby books and you buy out Baby Gap but what about you? You will go and buy some maternity clothes but will you love them? Maybe, maybe not. You’re working with a whole new body shape now. The body type you’ve been used to for the past 20-30 years is slowly disappearing and your hips are getting a bit bigger and your belly is definitely getting bigger. It’s beautiful, it’s gorgeous but how do you dress it? More importantly, how do you dress your pregnant body AND stay stylish. Whether you like it or not being pregnant is kind of like hanging a sign around your neck saying ‘Look at me!’. People will look at you more than you’re used to. That’s kind of awesome though – when you’re growing a person inside of you people just can’t help themselves, it is a miracle. So now that you have a whole lot more people looking at you, you’ll want to look and feel your best. This cute baby bump doesn’t last long, before you know it baby will be here. ENJOY your pregnancy. Enjoy people doting on you and giving you their seat and showering you with that extra attention.
So what is fashionable for Fall-Winter 2013?
1. Jewel Tones, Fur & Leather

One of the easiest ways to stay stylish while pregnant is purchasing one or two pieces in the season’s hottest colours. Whether it be a top, scarf or cardigan, having this colour in your wardrobe will automatically make you current! This Fall and Winter look for emeralds (as seen above), purples, mustard yellows, orange and red wine. Faux fur is also very in this season. Sara from Posh Mommy says, “Faux fur is a must have whether its a vest, a wrap scarf, fringed on a sweater or on your gloves…wear it and rock it!”. And lastly, leather pants. I was a bit skeptical myself. Leather pants + pregnant body? But our model swore they were super comfy and these pants are hot, perfect for a night out on the town before baby arrives!
The above clothing was provided by Calgary’s best maternity clothing store, Posh Mommy. Shop online for the look you see above!

2. Military style boots and Florals

If you have a Christmas party to attend this season this is the time you could incorporate florals into your wardrobe. This beautiful Maternal America dress is a tie back which always flatters pregnant bodies, accentuating your chest and providing separation between your chest and belly. Pair it with heels to dress it up or as seen above you could pair it with military style boots for a more casual look!

3. Stars & Stripes, A Diaper bag that looks GOOD

Whether you wear it in a cute tunic over leggins or a comfy knit, stars are in. When you’re choosing a diaper bag look for something that you could use after you don’t need it as a diaper bag anymore. You may invest a bit more but if you choose a well made bag you can use it for years. This one from Matt & Nat could easily be used a nice carry on bag when it’s retired from being a diaper bag.

4. Mix comfortable with style

I wore leggings almost exclusively with my last pregnancy. They are so comfy! But when you wear leggings make sure to pair them with a nice top or tunic. While being comfortable is a top priority you also want to stay looking put together. Sara from Posh Mommy suggests, “Tunics are always a popular favourite when paired with the greatest Maternity legging at POSH (Seraphine) Just remember to cover your bum. Do the bend over test… if your bum shows its too short!” Another easy way to stay on trend? Paint your nails this season’s hottest colour. It will only take you a few minutes and you’ll instantly be on trend!
