I knew this would happen. As soon as I got busy again my blogging would fall by the wayside. Sorry guys! I commit to getting back to it this week. I have a bunch of recent sessions to share and a really fun DIY project that I know you’ll love! Hockey is finally over and besides Beavers and Cubs my kids aren’t in any activities for the next few months – hallelujah! Spring is in the air and already the boys are making their way outside to play after school and staying out for hours, love this. One thing I don’t love is trying to call them back IN the house. I’ve seriously considered getting one of those triangle dinner bells to call the boys in. I found this one at SchoolHouse Electric which is pretty much exactly what I’m looking for. A bit worried it might backfire on me and all the kids in the neighbourhood will be ringing the bell constantly but it would save me from yelling for them.
This week I’m back in Edmonton to photograph this Mom’s new baby! Can’t wait to meet their new baby boy. Below are photos from a recent session with the most loving family. A newly adopted daughter and then a brand new baby. I love all the different ways a family can be made.

Recently I’ve been updating all of the products I’m offering my clients. I used to do baby announcements when I first started (almost 8 years ago!) and then I stopped for awhile. Clients were ordering from Minted which, don’t get me wrong, I love Minted and they offer some really gorgeous announcements but, with the exchange rate and shipping Minted can get a bit pricey. So I decided to source my own designs that reflect my clientele and their aesthetic. Announcements that I could offer at a good price while still getting amazing quality. These cards are so lovely. I have them printed on a thick felt paper and the print quality of the photos is perfect. I’ll often see really cute baby announcements but the photo itself has not printed well. These ones won’t disappoint! If I’m coming to photograph your baby and you want to see them in person just let me know and I’ll bring along some samples so you can see them for yourself. Below are four of my new designs but please take a minute and browse all twelve of the new designs here!

I can’t believe it’s almost March already! In between sessions and editing and the general busyness with a family of five I’ve been planning our trip to Europe. It’s coming up in less than four months now and I’m realizing I have so much to do to get ready. We were really lucky to get an AMAZING deal on flights. If you don’t follow YYC Deals I highly recommend you do. Our flights were $534 CDN each including taxes from Calgary to Paris – did I mention this is an amazing price?? (*sidenote- when I just linked to YYC Deals I saw he posted another deal from Calgary to Paris, also a really good price for summer!) We’ve been before with the kids – Oliver was 4 and Hugh was 13 months old – so it’s not my first go but it’s still intimidating and a little scary making sure I haven’t forgotten anything. After we got back last time I wrote about my Top 10 Tips for Traveling Abroad with Little Ones which I will definitely be referring back to. I hope when we get back I won’t be writing a post “What Was I Thinking Traveling to Europe with Three Kids?” –:)
This time instead of just France, we’ll also be doing 2 days in London and a week in Scotland. We’ve never been to either so if you have any favourite spots or recommendations please share!
I’ll share more about where we’re staying and our plans in a future blog post but for now I want to share this beautiful family’s recent newborn session!

I’m oftened asked by maternity clients what they should wear for their session. What to wear for an indoor session can be a lot different than an outdoor one. Do I have to choose more than one outfit? Should I wear dark colours or light? A dress or pants? It can be overwhelming for some. A lot of my clients seem to be naturally good at dressing themselves (I’m not one of those people!). So if you’re like me and you need some guidance in this department I’ve come up with a few tips on dressing for indoor maternity photos.

1. Try and have at least two outfits picked out.
– If you like the more intimate looking ones I would choose one like that and another more clothed – all of the photos below were taken in one room with the exception of the silhouette’s. Having more than one outfit choice helps give variety to the session.

2. Light and layers always look great.
– A light coloured dress, white or off white, is flattering on everyone
– If it’s a loose dress a belt can help define the belly as well
Check out this one and this one.

3. Bralette and cardigan or soft button down shirt OR kimono
– I think a lace bralette works better in photos than a regular bra. It’s softer and the texture photographs well. (I love the combo this Mom chose or black bralette, chambray shirt and simple gold jewellery) Something like this one.
– Choose a soft single coloured cardigan – this super soft one has a bit of texture and just goes well with a soft looking maternity session
– If you’re going with a button down shirt, a chambray one looks great or a soft coloured shirt – think pale blue, pink, grey, white – check out this one in several colours
– A kimono drapes really well and would look great with a bralette or a body-hugging tank. A floral patterned kimono like this one is so pretty

4. Jeans and a tank
– Jeans look great BUT not maternity jeans. The giant elastic waist (which is so comfy!) doesn’t photograph well. Wear your pre-pregnancy jeans and we’ll leave them unbuttoned. Casual and cute.

5. Flowers or Greenery.
– A flower crown is completely up to you. If it’s not your thing, don’t get one. My clients have gotten theirs from Fleurish Flower Shop and Blue Hydrangea. Alternatively you could buy a beautiful bouquet to display in your room or some greenery. Plant has some great modern greenery to choose from. Something alive in a room always helps to add interest.

And that’s it! I’m going to start adding ideas to my Pinterest Board to help clients along with choosing their outfits. So follow along if you’d like some ideas and see the below maternity photos for some awesome outfit inspiration!

My neighbourhood just got one step cuter when Roux was born. He is always dressed in style and his Mom is going to share her baby favourites soon here on the blog! But for now let’s just enjoy Roux’s newborn pics with his proud Mom and Dad and big brothers.
